Torra Conservancy

Named after the red torra rocks predominant in the area, Torra is one of the founding four conservancies formed in 1998. It is a large conservancy, covering 3,493 km2 with around 1,100 people. It is situated in north west Namibia, in Kunene region, around the junction of roads to Khorixas, Sesfontein, Kamanjab and Torra Bay, at the coast.

The conservancy landscape is a mix of hills, plains and wooded river valleys, including the scenic Huab River. Wildlife includes elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino, cheetah, ostrich, kudu, duiker, warthog, steenbok, gemsbok, springbok, giraffe, mountain zebra, klipspringer, spotted hyaena.

In partnership with Sesfontein and Anabeb Conservancies, the conservancy has joint-venture tourism agreements with Damaraland Camp and Desert Rhino Camp, both operated by Wilderness Safaris, and with Palmwag Lodge. All three are located in the Palmwag Tourism Concession, which is popular for game drives that include desert elephant and black rhino.

Income is derived from conservation hunting and tourism.
