Anabeb Conservancy

Anabeb Conservancy

The conservancy is named after the Ana tree, which grows slowly and can reach great heights and provide shade in Namibia’s ephemeral river beds. Anabeb is in Kunene Region in the north west of Namibia, and nestles between Palmwag and Sesfontein – both popular tourist destinations. There are 1,400 people in the conservancy. Palmwag is a tourist concession area with a large lodge in a river bed. Sesfontein is the site of an old German fort, and is a springboard for adventurous travellers to the arid and sparsely populated far north west. The landscape is a mix of hills, plains and wooded river valleys. Wildlife includes elephant, leopard, cheetah, mountain zebra, gemsbok, springbok, ostrich, steenbok, kudu, klipspringer, black backed jackal, lion and caracal.

In partnership with Torra and Sesfontein Conservancies, the conservancy has joint-venture tourism agreements with Damaraland Camp and Desert Rhino Camp, both operated by Wilderness Safaris, and with Palmwag Lodge. All three are located in the Palmwag Tourism Concession, which is popular for game drives that include desert elephant and black rhino.

Most conservancy income is derived from tourism and conservation hunting.
